New regime slabs, FY 2026-27

The same for every age. Salaried people and pensioners deduct ₹75,000 first.

A rebate of up to ₹60,000 means no tax at all on a taxable income up to ₹12,00,000, which is ₹12,75,000 of salary. Just above ₹12 lakh the tax is never more than the income above ₹12 lakh, so earning a little more never leaves you with less.

The standard deduction is ₹50,000, and a rebate of up to ₹12,500 means no tax on a taxable income up to ₹5,00,000. The old regime allows the deductions in the form, which is why it can still come out lower for someone with a large home loan and full investments.

Surcharge and cess

Above ₹50 lakh a surcharge is added to the tax: 10% above ₹50 lakh, 15% above ₹1 crore, 25% above ₹2 crore, and under the old regime 37% above ₹5 crore (the new regime stops at 25%). Crossing a step never costs more than the income above it; the calculator applies that relief. A health and education cess of 4% is then added to the tax and surcharge.

What this calculator leaves out

Capital gains taxed at their own rates (shares, mutual funds, property), lottery winnings, agricultural income and the rules for non-residents are not included, and the rebate does not reduce tax on those. The rates are those of Budget 2026, unchanged from FY 2025-26, under the Income-tax Act 2025 that took effect on 1 April 2026. Use it to compare and to plan; your return or a tax professional has the final word.

Frequently asked questions

How much salary is tax-free in FY 2026-27?

Under the new regime, up to ₹12,75,000 of salary: the ₹75,000 standard deduction brings it to ₹12,00,000 of taxable income, and the rebate covers the tax on that.

Which regime should I choose?

The one with the lower tax, which the calculator shows. The new regime usually wins unless your deductions are large: a home loan, full investments under 80C, health insurance and NPS together.

Did Budget 2026 change the tax slabs?

No. Budget 2026 left the slabs, the rebate, the standard deduction, the surcharge and the cess as they were in FY 2025-26, so this calculator works for both years.

Why is my tax slightly different from my salary slip?

Your employer may spread the tax differently over the months, count allowances or deductions differently, or include capital gains or other income this calculator leaves out. The yearly total should be close if the figures you type are the same.

Is my income sent anywhere?

No. The calculation happens in JavaScript inside your own browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or saved - close the tab and it is gone.
